  14. (TUCSON, Ariz. -- September 30, 1991) -- Artisoft announced today its new 
  15. LANtastic 10BASE-T Starter Kit, packaging the LANtastic Network Operating 
  16. System software (for up to 300 users) with a Peer-HubTM 10BASE-T concentrator,
  17. two AE-1/TTM Ethernet adapters, cabling and documentation. Scheduled to ship 
  18. in early October 1991, it is priced at $899.  "The LANtastic 10BASE-T Starter
  19. Kit is designed to provide an integrated hardware/software solution and one-
  20. stop shop for end users and resellers," said Jack Schoof, Artisoft President 
  21. and CEO.

  23. Artisoft develops and manufactures a full line of hardware and software for 
  24. local area networks including the LANtastic Local Area Network. The LANtastic 
  25. network is a peer-to-peer network that allows users of IBM-compatible computers
  26. to connect and share information and peripheral devices such as printers, hard
  27. drives and CD-ROMs.

  29. The AE-1/T Ethernet adapter is an 8-bit, ISA bus network adapter for use with 
  30. IBM PC/XT/AT 386/486 computers and compatibles. It offers a 10Mbps data 
  31. transfer rate, supports 8K of onboard RAM and is software-compatible with 
  32. Novell's NE1000 adapter.

  34. The AE-1/T Ethernet adapter's telephone-style RJ45 jack connects to the Peer-
  35. Hub concentrator, or any standard 10BASE-T hub, with unshielded twisted-pair 
  36. cabling. The adapter includes a link-integrity LED to show if a proper 
  37. connection to the hub has been made. The AE-1/T Ethernet adapter also has a 
  38. special connector for linking internally to the Peer-Hub concentrator.

  40. The Peer-Hub concentrator is a complete 10BASE-T hub residing in a host PC. 
  41. It has five external 10BASE-T ports using modular RJ45 telephone-style jacks 
  42. that can connect to any standard 10BASE-T adapters. Its network management 
  43. software allows the host PC to view the status of all ports, as well as 
  44. activate or disable each port individually. Plus, onboard EEPROM saves the 
  45. complete network configuration to memory, guarding against power outage.

  47. The Peer-Hub concentrator also has three special internal connectors which 
  48. have been designed to connect with other ArtisoftTM products. One provides 
  49. an internal 10BASE-T connection to Artisoft's AE-1/T, AE-2/TTM or AE-3TM  
  50. Ethernet adapters without using one of the five external RJ45 ports. Another 
  51. internal connector is used to link multiple Peer-Hub concentrators together; 
  52. up to four per PC. The third option, with the separate purchase of an Artisoft
  53. AUI Interface Kit, provides an internal coax connection between the Peer-Hub 
  54. concentrator and an Artisoft AE-3 Ethernet adapter (which supports thin and 
  55. thick coax in addition to 10BASE-T connections). Used in this manner, the AUI 
  56. Interface Kit creates a bridge between the 10BASE-T network on the hub and a 
  57. coax Ethernet segment attached to the AE-3 Ethernet adapter.
